Our Muay Thai Kickboxing Program is a very fun and exciting experience. You will learn not only how to defend yourself while on your feet, but also get or stay in great shape. Muay Thai requires you to use your whole body as a weapon. We incorporate your hands, ebows, knees, shins, and feet as a tool by which to strike an opponent. Along with pushing your current conditiong to a new level. And don't worry if you are not already in great shape. With a few weeks of class, your body will come around! You will be punching, kicking, and throwing knees and elbows in no time, and have an absolute blast doing it!!
Most people in this class are not looking to go and fight. If you are looking for this, we can help you as well. But, if you are looking to learn a very valuable and practical Martial Art, along with workout your entire body. This is the class for you.
Our Muay Thai Kicboxing Class starts with the students lining up. Then, the class will continue with a very comprehensive stretching routine, along with a healthy workout. This workout is geared toward making your stamina an asset, instead of a weakness. Then, all students will gather around the instructor, who will teach the students a particular offensive or defensive technique or position. And at that point, the students will work either with the instructor himself, or a partner. We have a lot of different equipment that the students will work with. Be it kick bags, kneed pads, punching bags, focus mitts, jump rope, or etc. Each class will have a specific focus. Once this is over, another workout will be given. Then, the instructor will call time, and then everyone is excused from the mat or ring.
* For those who wish to either spar, or get prepared to compete, the next hour after class will be for sparring live. Only those who wish to participate are allowed. This is NEVER mandatory.
Our Muay Thai Kick Boxing Program is different than most gyms around. We train our students in levels. You start at Level 1, then work your way up to Level 5. When you first start our Muay Thai Program, you will learn the more basic techniques, positions, and combinations. As you come to more classes, you will progress to higher levels, and thereby learn and work more difficult techniques, positions, and combinations. You will receive awards for the higher levels of training.
Muay Thai has a long history in Thailand and is the country's national sport. Traditional Muay Thai practiced today varies slightly from the ancient art Muay Boran and uses kicks and punches in a ring with gloves similar to those used in Western Boxing. Muay Thai is referred to as "The Science of Eight Limbs", as the hands, shins, elbows, and knees are all used extensively in this art. A master practitioner of Muay Thai thus has the ability to execute strikes using eight "points of contact," as opposed to "two points" (fists) in Western Boxing and "four points" (fists, feet) used in the primarily sport-oriented forms of martial arts.
Various forms of kickboxing have long been practiced throughout Southeast Asia. Muay Thai's origin in Thailand can be traced back to its ancestor Muay Boran ("ancient boxing"). This was the form of unarmed combat used by Siamese soldiers in conjunction with Krabi Krabong, the weapon-based style. The precedence Muay Thai and Muay Boran give to the kicks is only indigenous to Thailand and the surrounding area, since Indian boxing as well as most southern Chinese styles use only low kicks sparingly. Another influence from Thailand's weapon style can be seen in the pre-fight Wai Kru ritual which is based on the sabre dance of Krabi Krabong.
