Takedowns and throws are a very essential component to anyone wanting to complete their self defense training. A lot of people either train specifically on their feet, or on the ground. Not only for throwing or takedowns, but what if someone grabs you by the waist? What about the in between phase? Takedowns Class is what.

We incorporate both Wrestling and Judo throws and takedowns. To not do both would be a great injustice to your training.

Wrestling takedowns are an ever present skill that must be learned for someone wanting to take a fight to the ground.

Judo throws are also a very essential skill to posess.

Our Takedowns class starts with the students lining up, and bowing into class. Then, the class will continue with a light cardio workout, which incorporates many of the necessary movements involved in the practice of Takedowns and Throws. Then a full body stretching routine is initiated in order to prepare your body for the rest of class. Next, all students will gather around the instructor, who will teach the students a particular takedown, throw, takedown defense, or throw defense. He will go over this technique several times until everyone has had a chance to see it. Once the instructor says so, students will partner up, and practice the technique on one another. This will go on for several minutes. Then the instructor will call the students in for more instruction. Then, the students will go back to working their techniques. After the instruction is over, the instructor will tell the students to grab their mouthpieces. Then, the students will partner up with someone their own size, and attempt takedowns and throwing. The object is to takedown or throw your training partner, while not getting taken down or thrown yourself. Once this is over, the instructor will call time, and the students will switch partners. After a few round robins, time will be called. Everyone will line up by rank, and bow out of class.
Our Takedowns Program is different than most academies around. We train our students in levels. You start at Level 1, then work your way up to Level 5. When you first start our Takedown Program, you will learn the more basic takedowns and throws. As you come to more classes, you will progress to higher levels, and thereby learn and work more difficult takedowns and throws. You will receive awards for the higher levels of training.
Judo , meaning "gentle way", is a modern Japanese martial art and combat sport, that originated in Japan in the late nineteenth century. Its most prominent feature is its competitive element, where the object is to either throw one's opponent to the ground, immobilize or otherwise subdue one's opponent with a grappling maneuver, or force an opponent to submit by joint locking the elbow or by applying a choke.

Wrestling is the act of physical engagement between two unarmed persons, in which each wrestler strives to get an advantage over or control of their opponent. Physical techniques which embody the style of wrestling are clinching, holding, locking, and leverage. Avoiding techniques likely to lead to serious injury, wrestling has aspects of ritual fighting, but its basic principles are closely related to those of military hand-to-hand combat or self defense systems. Many styles of wrestling are known all over the world and have long histories, and sport wrestling (particularly amateur wrestling) has been an Olympic sport for over 100 years.
